A Note From John

Choosing the right therapist is one of the most valuable and important gifts you can give yourself.  Welcome to the first step in that sacred process.

The majority of my clinical experience has been school-based, which has allowed me to engage with students and families to address a variety of issues and challenges.  Generally, I specialize in mood disorders, depression, ADHD, behavioral issues, and grief and loss; all through a trauma-informed care lens.

Why I Became a Therapist

I became a therapist because I grew up watching quite a few friends in my neighborhood struggle both academically and socially. As a peer, I was limited in my ability to help and/or provide useful resources beyond just a listening ear. I made a promise that one day I would become the adult they needed.  To paraphrase Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye, "I'd just be the Catcher in the Rye and all. I know it's crazy and all, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be."

What I am Passionate About

As a college professor of LGBT Studies for thirteen years, I have a passion for serving LGBTQ+ clients with a particular focus on gender dysphoria, coming out issues, and developing a healthy sense of self while interrogating cultural programming that does not serve the individual.
