Parenting & Co-Parenting

This job is not for the faint of heart! Have you seen this commercial? The job description is spot on. "135 hours to unlimited hours per week." Our parenting styles are learned mainly from our own parents. Without any additional learning you may fall into parenting exactly as you were parented, which may or may not line up with your child's needs. Frequently, tension arises when our parenting styles do not mesh with our individual child's personality and character. In these situations, getting support in talking through ways to alter your reactions and interactions to better connect with your child or children is important for you to build the relationship that you would like.

You know your kid best...

You know your child better than anyone. You also know yourself best. If there is a problem, you'll have an idea. This is not a reflection of your parenting, but likely more of a pattern or cycle of behavior that is perpetuated by each person's emotions and behaviors.

How you might be feeling...

Of course you love your kids, but you may be feeling like you don't like them that much. Individual parenting styles work differently on different children, which may lead you to feeling connected with one child and disconnected from another. It may feel like everything is a battle or you are constantly having to repeat yourself. Or it may feel like whatever you do is driving them further and further away.

How We Can Help

We know that you know how things work in your house best and how to respond to your child. We also know, (from personal experience!) how hard it can be to see the simple fixes when you are IN it. We can help you take a step back and understand what sets your children off, what behaviors of yours perpetuate the cycle, and how each of you affects the other. Our goal is to strengthen your relationship and support you in being who you already are...
