A Note From Brooks

My goal is to bring present-moment awareness to the counseling space. This means I am present with you in each session to discover what matters to you in the current moment. We often face obstacles that we can better overcome with support, and having an unbiased individual to talk to about these situations is beneficial. We all encounter life situations in ways that are unique to our individual experiences. I will approach our time together with genuineness and positive regard.

Why I am Becoming a Therapist

We all need to feel recognized and able to express our thoughts and emotions with an unbiased professional. I value and have witnessed the healing that can take place in a strong therapeutic relationship where the sole purpose is to be in the present moment with another human. I am genuinely curious about others, from questions/discussions about identity to questions about existence. Exploring life from the here and now with an empathetic approach is useful.

I believe people deserve to be recognized as individuals no matter their life situations. In a room where no matter what is said there is non-judgment and unconditional positive regard. This approach extends to my work with children as well. During my time as a PE teacher, I observed how movement and activity can assist in engaging with children and adults.

What I am Passionate About

I am passionate about living life in the present moment, holding space for others to share, and exploring whatever comes to mind with openness. This includes recognizing others, whether it be a success or a challenge. I am curious about people and their perspectives on life. As a former PE teacher, I see that movement creates opportunity for people to share in different ways, which is why I’m passionate about outdoor therapy and play therapy. As a trans man, I am passionate about supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
